Cat Barber hits crazy 3-pointer in summer league debut with Mavericks

Hey, listen, man, it never hurts to be both lucky AND good.

Cat Barber had himself a solid debut for Dallas in the Orlando Summer league: he scored 14 points on 5-10 shooting, grabbed six boards, and dished out five assists. Oh, and uh, he did this thing here:

Cat gets put into a near-impossible situation with the clock winding down and a defender trapping him right up against the sideline, so he has to basically jump backwards into the bench while vaulting the ball over his defender’s arms. And somehow that all worked. A smidge on the lucky side, sure, but still impressive.

Barber logged more than 31 minutes as Dallas’ starting point guard (summer league games are 40 minutes, not 48) and continues to make a pretty good case for an NBA roster spot. He played well in the D-League (er, ahem, G-League) this past season and has another opportunity this week to make a positive impression in front of NBA personnel. He’s off to a good start.
