NC State is No. 36 in preseason Pomeroy Ratings

Hoops be right around the corner.

College basketball season must be close, since the first edition of the 2019 Pomeroy Ratings came out over the weekend. Huzzah! NC State checks in at No. 36 in the preseason ratings, which is 10 spots higher than where it finished the 2018 season.

The Wolfpack is projected to have a top-15 offense this season, and the Ratings also expect a little improvement on the defensive end, though State still isn’t expected to be good there. No surprise given the program’s track record.

Win probabilities for each individual game are up as well. The toughest projected non-conference game at this point is Wisconsin, where the Pack is being given a 28% chance to win. Both the Penn State and Auburn games are coin flips.

As for the ACC as a whole, here are the projected standings (national rank in parentheses):

  1. Duke (2)
  2. UNC (3)
  3. UVA (4)
  4. Syracuse (8)
  5. Clemson (14)
  6. FSU (15)
  7. Miami (21)
  8. Virginia Tech (22)
  9. NC State (36)
  10. Notre Dame (59)
  11. Louisville (63)
  12. Boston College (66)
  13. Wake Forest (91)
  14. Georgia Tech (92)
  15. Pittsburgh (139)
