You wouldn’t guess it based on the final score, but the first half between NC State and Mount St. Mary’s was fairly contentious—not that the outcome was ever in doubt, mind you, but there was no blowout to be had in those first 20 minutes.
State led 40-30 at the halftime break, and then poured on the offense to beat the Mountaineers by 50. State couldn’t hit a perimeter shot in the first half, and then suddenly State started making perimeter shots in the second. Funny what happens when that shifts.

Mount St. Mary’s gambled on daring State to take threes by playing a lot of zone, and that paid off okay in the first half, but again, that didn’t last. Still you can figure that the Wolfpack will have to work its way around a variety of zone defenses this season.
Torin Dorn scored a career-high 28 points, and Markell Johnson put in 17. Everybody got off to a slow start tonight, pretty much, but they finished strong.
State will be back at it against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.
