NC State forced Western Carolina to turn the ball over on 39.4% of its possessions on Wednesday night—33 turnovers total. That turnover rate was so high it prompted me to look back through the years at the Wolfpack’s best efforts in this category.
I looked through all of the games all the way back to the 2001-2002 season (that’s as far as the archives go at KenPom.com) and found that Wednesday night was the only instance of a defensive turnover rate over 39% in all that time. So there’s a pretty good chance that we just saw the Pack defense generate its best defensive turnover rate this century.
Congratulations, Western Carolina, you have helped make some history. And I’m sorry.
I’m still struck by the utter lack of handles across the board on that WCU team. Maybe they should start taking all their shots from 35 feet just to limit how far down the court they have to go.
