It’s been an eventful day on the recruiting trail, especially by college basketball standards. Not long after Kentucky transfer Sacha Killeya-Jones announced his commitment to NC State, the news dropped that incoming freshman Saddiq Bey will not be enrolling in Raleigh. Killeya-Jones’ addition briefly made 14 scholarship players on the roster, which is one over the NCAA limit.
And here's the answer, from NC State:

"Saddiq Bey has asked for his release from his national letter of intent and we are in the process of granting his request (cont.)."
(cont.) From Kevin Keatts: "Saddiq is a great kid and we wish him the best of luck in the future."

It’s unlikely that Bey’s departure came as a response to Killeya-Jones’ addition, but rather that the coaching staff was aware that some additional attrition was coming and recruited Killeya-Jones accordingly. As the old line goes, the coaches can count. And usually a departure like this has been percolating for a while.
Strange day given the timing off all this stuff, though. If we could manage through the rest of the week and/or offseason without any loud noises, I’d appreciate it. Not that I’ll be holding my breath over it.
Anyway, best of luck to Bey at his next stop.
