Freshman guard Lavar Batts transferring from NC State

NCAA Basketball: North Carolina State at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Lavar Batts Jr. has announced that he’ll be transferring from NC State after one season in the program. Batts logged a little over 13 minutes per game as a freshman and averaged 3.7 points per contest.

He was originally a VCU commitment but sought to re-evaluate his options after Will Wade left that program to take the LSU gig. Batts verbally committed to play for Kevin Keatts last April but didn’t become a crucial part of NC State’s rotation and would have been unlikely to do so as a sophomore.

This one has felt like a doomed marriage for a while now, though Batts had his bright spots off the bench. His inability to develop consistency in his jumper was one reason why he didn’t end up earning more playing time.

And I’m sure he’ll land in a good situation--he was a four-star recruit out of high school and will get a lot of interest. Best of luck to him at the next stop.
