The NCAA men’s basketball tournament selection committee will have a half-dozen more advanced metrics to consider this March, and while the NET is the most publicized of them since it is RPI’s replacement, it may not end up being the most important. That one’s hard to figure at this point since this is all new.
Anyway, here are the components of the team sheet that will be part of the debate this season, with NC State’s current rank in each one (via BartTorvik.com):
Wolfpack team sheet 1/10
Team | NET | KPI | SOR | BPI | KenPom | Sagarin |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Team | NET | KPI | SOR | BPI | KenPom | Sagarin |
NC State | 16 | 58 | 18 | 17 | 23 | 17 |
You are probably familiar with most of these, though probably not KPI. I’m not clear on what it is that KPI is attempting to do, honestly. But it’s in there!
The overall picture is a positive one despite the KPI outlier—NC State is solidly in the top 25 in each of the other metrics, and we should be past the point of wild swings, at least assuming the Wolfpack doesn’t go on an extended losing streak or something. This team is too good for that.
