NC State is No. 28 in preseason Pomeroy Ratings

NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament-Virginia vs North Carolina State Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

On the positive news front, the Pomeroy Ratings are more optimistic about NC State basketball than they have been in a while. The Wolfpack will begin the 2019-20 season at No. 28 overall, which is its highest preseason rank since it started the 2012-13 season at No. 24.

There are five ACC teams ahead of State in the ratings, and you can probably guess them: Louisville, Duke, UVA, UNC, and FSU.

Here’s a look at the entire league (KenPom rating in parenthesis):

Louisville (3)
Duke (4)
Virginia (5)
UNC (6)
Florida State (14)

NC State (28)

Notre Dame (42)
Syracuse (51)
Virginia Tech (54)

Miami (65)
Georgia Tech (66)
Pittsburgh (67)

Clemson (79)
Wake Forest (80)

Boston College (119)

Of note in the non-conference portion of the Pack’s schedule: Auburn is No. 22, Wisconsin is No. 45, and Memphis is No. 50 (computer ain’t buying the hype there yet). NC State is projected to finish the season 20-11 (11-9).
