NC State announced Thursday afternoon that junior point guard Blake Harris has left the basketball program for “personal reasons.” Harris has been a reserve throughout his NC State career and likely would have remained so this upcoming season.
Last year he averaged only 9.5 minutes per game and did not make a start. He saw his playing time decline during league play, where he averaged only 6.4 minutes per contest. Harris was a decent spark plug defensively here and there but never did find a solid foothold in the rotation, which is likely the biggest reason he will be playing elsewhere.
Harris began his college career at Missouri but transferred out after the first semester of his freshman season.
I’m disappointed that Harris didn’t work out in Raleigh, but I don’t find his decision to move on terribly surprising. The timing is kind of odd, though, what with the regular season just a couple of weeks out.
The Wolfpack has a point guard committed for 2020, and perhaps Harris realized he was never going to be a starter here. NC State has three commitments overall for ‘20, and now has two open slots to add players.
