Tough news this week, as former NC State guard Anthony Grundy was involved in a stabbing incident in his hometown of Louisville and later died from the injuries. He was just 40 years old.
Grundy accomplished a lot on the court at NC State, and he’s always been a special player to me because he led the program out of its post-Valvano slog through obscurity and back to the NCAA tournament. He probably still doesn’t get the credit he should for just how good he was in his senior season. On Twitter, Tim Peeler posted a nice tribute.
Archie Miller, who played alongside Grundy, also reacted on Twitter:
So Tough to hear the news of the passing of one my Best Men. Thoughts and Prayers go out to everyone impacted. Take it way back with a couple of these. Absolute Warrior, one the most fearless I have ever been around. #RIPAG #GRUNDY pic.twitter.com/t5V0aCriYJ— Arch Miller (@Archie_Miller) November 15, 2019
That was a fun team to watch in large part because Grundy’s personality shined so bright. We didn’t cross paths much since our college careers only briefly overlapped, but it seemed like he had a smile on his face every time I saw him.
Rest in peace, Anthony.
