All things considered, Saturday could have been worse from the bid-thieving perspective. Buffalo took care of business in the MAC, both potential bid-stealers in the AAC lost in the semifinals, Utah State beat San Diego State, and Auburn beat Florida. Those were all good results for NC State.
But Oregon stole a bid by beating Washington in the Pac-12 tournament final late last night, and with the Wolfpack’s footing so iffy, it’s hard not to wonder if it was State’s bubble that popped. Thanks for nothin’, Washington, ya crumbums.
So it’s gonna be a long afternoon of waiting and nail-biting ahead of the selection show, which as usual doesn’t start until 6 p.m. State’s lived on the edge of the bubble a lot over the last 10 years but this year feels like the most tenuous situation yet.
