NC State and Memphis will headline the 2019 Barclays Center Classic, according to documents obtained by the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. The Wolfpack and Tigers will square off in Brooklyn on Nov. 28.
It appears there are also three non-conference home games for the Wolfpack that are tied to the event. It’s similar in format to several events State’s been a part of in the past—like the Legends Classic, for instance—with a few warm-up games against mid-majors leading up to the main event in Brooklyn.
The Tigers, who NC State could theoretically see in the NIT title game this year, finished the 2019 regular season at 21-13 (11-7). Penny Hardaway is adding a top-10 recruiting class to his program this offseason, including the No. 1 player in the class, seven-footer James Wiseman.
It should be a challenging matchup but a winnable one, and let’s hope, one that looks a bit better on the NCAA tournament resume than the neutral-site games State put on the schedule last year.
