What turned out to be Torin Dorn’s final game in an NC State uniform also happened to be his finest offensive performance in his time here. Sadly the end result didn’t reflect the individual effort in this case, but that’s life for you.
Dorn came to NC State at the tail end of Mark Gottfried’s tenure and would become an essential part of Kevin Keatts’ efforts to quickly make the basketball program respectable again. Dorn helped Keatts’ teams succeed in a lot of ways, and without him it’s difficult to imagine the last two seasons going as well as they did.
Dorn wasn’t typically the sort to wow you with the way he scored, but he was always a consistent presence, versatile enough to score effectively inside the arc and mix it up on the offensive boards.
He assumed a lot of responsibility this season and had the highest workload of his career. He still made 52% of his twos. He also had the best overall rebounding season of his college career, posting a top-250 defensive rebounding percentage. NC State relied on him night after night to be productive in that area.
The rebounding, the versatility, and the character all will be missed. Thank you for a great three years, Torin; now go make yourself some money.
