NC State’s non-conference basketball schedule includes road trip to UNC-Greenboro

Heading into the 2019-20 basketball season, we knew that NC State would be playing Auburn (return trip for the home-and-home agreement) and a team from the Big Ten (which turned out to be Wisconsin). More recently we’ve learned that State will play Memphis on a neutral floor, and as Joe Giglio reports here, State will play at UNCG.

The Wolfpack is playing at UNCG because the ACC Tournament is in Greensboro this year—the theory being that getting some experience in that gym with those rims might be beneficial come March. I’m dubious on that but won’t dismiss the idea entirely.

Anyway, Greensboro has been an excellent mid-major program of late—and beat the Wolfpack in Raleigh two years back. So whatever the motivation, this is a good addition for strength of schedule. The Spartans are losing some key pieces but you can bet they’ll be solid once again. Wes Miller is a good coach***, as annoying as he is with his jumpy-midget-walk-on routine. (Tossing off your jacket is a sign that you are doing some hard coaching.)

(***Please do not alert Wake Forest about this; thank you.)
