NC State forward DJ Funderburk suspended indefinitely for ‘violation of team policy’

Well this ain’t great.

Not feeling bad enough after the football team’s loss to Florida State over the weekend? Well, no problem, the basketball team is here to pile on!

NC State announced Monday night that DJ Funderburk is serving an indefinite suspension for a violation of team policy. I have not seen any reports regarding the nature of that violation—maybe there will be some clarification during State’s media day on Thursday.

You may remember that Funderburk initially signed with Ohio State but was later dismissed from the program by head coach Chris Holtmann. Funderburk had been serving a suspension there as well, and Holtmann alluded to “areas outside of basketball” on which Funderburk needed to improve. That included his academics.

Maybe he fell back on some of his old bad habits.

Obviously this is not an encouraging development for the Wolfpack’s prospects on the court, and it is especially ill-timed in this case because the Pack opens the year with a conference game. We’ll just have to wait and see how long “indefinitely” means.
