Markell Johnson and DJ Funderburk combined to score the final 15 points of the game for NC State, and when those two are at their best, the Wolfpack is pretty good. Markell is capable of plays nobody else can make, and a couple of those—his tough floater, a great finish at the rim as the shot clock ran down—put Notre Dame to bed.
Hopefully this was a sign of things to come from them. State doesn’t need Markell to go for 20+ all the time (but if he wants to, that is totally fine) but will need more scoring outbursts like this one.
Funderburk, meanwhile, is shooting 70% on twos this season, and he’s been the team’s best player at drawing fouls. He drew seven of them against the Irish. Drawing fouls and then finishing at the line was a major reason why State was able to come back and flip the outcome.
