While we wait (im)patiently for NC State’s men’s basketball season to resume, uh, at some point, probably, let’s have a look at what some advanced metrics think about the Wolfpack after three games.

NC State’s overall rank according to the below systems:

BPI: 15th
Team Rankings: 21st
KenPom: 35th
Torvik: 39th

It’s not surprising to see a relatively wide range of estimated team quality, what with only three games’ worth of results available so far. Also, the Pomeroy Ratings are still including preseason projections to an extent, and State began the year at 55. That 20-spot improvement in just a few games is pretty impressive.

Both KenPom and Bart Torvik rank NC State in the top 50 nationally in adjusted defensive effiency. The last time NC State finished with a defense in the top 50 was 2010.

There’s a lot to like about the way State started its season, from the defense to its efficient shooting to the performances by some of the freshmen. Hope we get to see these guys again soon!
