NC State guard Markell Johnson earns 2nd team All-ACC honors

Markell Johnson is the only NC State player to garner all-conference honors this year, and I’m mildly surprised we had anybody get a nod this year. Johnson earned All-ACC second team honors, joining Mamadi Diakite, Devin Vassell, Garrison Brooks, and Trent Forrest.

It’s not really worth quibbling on these things, but Vassell should have easily made the first team, while Kihei Clark doesn’t have any business on any all-conference team. I mean, I like Kihei fine, but dude put up a 42.7 eFG% in league games.

Anyway here’s how the all-conference teams broke down.

Elsewhere, Manny Bates got one vote for defensive player of the year and DJ Funderburk received a vote for most improved player. Both Bates and Devon Daniels have arguments for all-defensive team, yet neither came anywhere close. Steffon Mitchell’s inclusion there is a bit of a head-scratcher.
