NC State is set to host Howard in a non-conference game next season, per Jon Rothstein. The two schools have met twice before—the Wolfpack won both—with the last matchup coming in 2003.
The Bison were exceptionally bad last season, finishing 350th in the Pomeroy Ratings. They managed just four wins all season, and only three were against D-I opponents. They also suffered a loss to something called Washington Adventist, which seems bad.
This is the kind of team that you’d ideally like to avoid, though it may be this is tied to the Empire Classic (like a couple home games in 2019 were tied to the event with Memphis in Brooklyn), in which case NC State might not have a say on the opponent.
But it’s not like Howard alone is going to drag down the strength of schedule as long as the slate is balanced adequately. The Wolfpack played four sub-300 KenPom teams in 2019 and ended with a perfectly fine non-conference strength of schedule anyway.
