Kevin Keatts is filling the assistant coaching vacancy on his staff with Bowling Green assistant Mike Summey, per Jeff Goodman. Summey has two decades of college coaching experience and has been at Bowling Green since 2015.
He’s also a 1997 graduate of NC State, where he served as a student manager for the basketball program under Les Robinson and Herb Sendek. He got his first assistant coaching gig at St. Francis (PA) in 1999, and notably served as the Director of Basketball Operations under Jim Larranaga from 2009-2013.
For what it’s worth, BGSU slowly but surely improved while Summey was on staff, going from five league wins in 2016 to seven in 2017 and 2018 and 12 in 2019 and 2020.
Additionally, Keatts is bringing in Ohio assistant Steve Snell to be his new Director of Basketball Operations and Drexel’s Chris Zupko to assist Snell. Keatts and Snell have been close for a long time, and back in the day it was a recommendation from Snell that helped get Keatts a gig at Marshall. Zupko worked with Keatts at Hargrave Military Academy.
