The NCAA released the first batch of NET ratings on Monday and NC State starts off in decent shape, at No. 38. That’s similar to the Wolfpack’s spot in the Pomeroy Ratings (46).

NC State’s best win is over No. 64 North Carolina, and it sure would be nice if the Tar Heels could work their way into the top 50 this season. (Though not too far into the top 50. Can’t have ‘em getting a big head over there.)

Saint Louis is 12th and NC State’s next opponent, Clemson, is 15th, which makes the Tigers the highest-rated ACC team at the moment. The two big non-conference games that State lost—against Michigan and UConn—both would have been top-50 matchups. The Wolverines are in the top 10.

The selection committee needs to be careful with how it weights non-conference schedules this year, with State being the perfect example why: the Pack’s non-conference SOS would sure look a lot better with those two teams on it, but State lost those games for reasons outside of its own control.
