Yes indeed, the day of days is here once more, and there’s an extra spring in my step as I anxiously await the selection of this year’s highly-anticipated NIT field. It is the greatest tournament on earth, no doubt America’s most prestigious—and indeed the only—post-season college basketball event.
And NC State, being the caliber of program that it is, again has a chance to find itself in the tremendous company of the National Invitation Tournament. You cannot simply decide you are playing in the National Invitation Tournament, oh no—it is an exclusive club meant only for the worthiest of the worthy.
And those willing to spend a week or two in Texas in the middle of a pandemic.
The field has been cut in half this year, from 32 teams to 16, and all games will take place in the fabulous Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The selection show airs Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
