NC State is in the NIT and will open with Davidson

NCAA Basketball: N.C. State at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

NC State will be playing in the NIT this year, which is to say that the team deemed it worthwhile to take a field trip to Texas, and hey, if that’s what the players want to do, more power to ‘em. The Wolfpack is a No. 3 seed in this 16-team field and will begin play against No. 2 Davidson on Thursday night.

Colorado State and Buffalo round out this quadrant.

Davidson is as usual a solid team and will be the favorite against the Wolfpack. The Wildcats are No. 57 in the Pomeroy Ratings, ahead of the other three teams in this quadrant. NC State is actually the lowest rated of the four, at 73rd.

Memphis is the highest-rated team in the field and the potential semifinal opponent for the Pack should it advance through its quadrant. State could also potentially play a rematch with St. Louis in the NIT title game. Uh, or the consolation game, which they brought back for some reason.

The NIT first round begins on Wednesday and runs through Saturday. All of the tournament’s games will air on ESPN or ESPN2.
