Dave Doeren's Contract Worth $1.8 Million Annually

US PRESSWIRE

New NC State coach Dave Doeren signed a five-year deal worth $1.8 million annually. Apparently competition from other schools drove up a the price a bit this week, which hey, good for him. Shortly after news of the hire broke, NC State posted a press release that includes statements from Doeren as well as Debbie Yow.

"Coach Dave Doeren is a highly motivated overachiever who shares our goals to pursue aggressively a high level of achievement in the classroom and on the field of competition," stated Yow.

"I am honored and excited to join the Wolfpack. NC State has world-class facilities and fans that are second to none," Doeren said. "I want to thank Chancellor Woodson and Debbie Yow for this tremendous opportunity. My family and I can't wait to get to Raleigh and become Wolfpackers. While I look forward to our future at State, I want to acknowledge and thank the Northern Illinois players and fans for their support the last two years, especially President Peters and Jeff Compher [athletic director]."

Given that statement from Yow, it's worth revisiting the comments she made about her philosophy for finding head coaches: which people have their programs in the top 25 without top 25-level resources? Doeren certainly fits that bill, as did other candidates on her list.

But it sounds like Doeren was her guy all along, and this search went quickly and quietly, which is a refreshing change around here. I'm all for drama and stuff, but to have a search executed without any NC State ish cropping up is a nice feeling.

Doeren will be introduced during a press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Sunday. Maybe he'll be able to share his skydiving experience with Mark Gottfried.
