NC State announced Friday the hiring of Dave Huxtable, who will serve as defensive coordinator on Dave Doeren's staff. Huxtable comes to NC State from Pittsburgh, where he had been serving in the same role. Doeren mentioned in the schools release that he and Huxtable share defensive philosophies.
"Dave is an ACC veteran coach with a great track record of fundamentally sound, tough, hard-nosed defenses," said Doeren. "He and I have similar defensive philosophies. We know a lot of the same people and they all say that he is tremendous as a coach, a person and a technician."
Huxtable has more than two decades of coaching experience and has served as a defensive coordinator at a number of places, including Georgia Tech, Central Florida, and, yes, UNC. This also means he has experience recruiting in the southeast, which is a bonus.
Huxtable's Pittsburgh defense ranks in the top 25 in total defense, scoring defense, pass efficiency defense, and rush defense.
