Tom O'Brien may be gone, but the injury bug is still here. Dave Doeren announced Friday that Logan Winkles will miss the 2013 season after suffering a knee injury in practice.
Logan Winkles will miss the season with a knee injury. Ryan Cheek immediately asked @StateCoachD if he could move to FB #brothers

Cheek is (or was) a linebacker, which is not a position from which we want to be taking players, but he didn't figure to make the two-deep at that spot. Tyler Purvis is now State's starting fullback. If there's a silver lining here, it's the fact that the injury came early in August, giving Purvis and Cheek or whoever some time to adjust to a new role.
I'll miss that magnificent hair this year, though, that's for sure. Let us remember the good times, Logan.
In other news, the quarterback battle is down to two.
Doeren also stated today that the quarterback battle is down to Pete Thomas and Brandon Mitchell.

That's been pretty obvious for a while now, but I am kinda surprised this announcement came before a single scrimmage. I guess they've seen all they need to see from Manny Stocker and the freshmen in the first week of practice.
