A flood of ALL CAPS, exclamation points, and hashtags. It could only mean one thing: a commitment to NC State by a high school football player. The Wolfpack got a verbal from consensus three-star safety/wideout prospect Freddie Phillips on Tuesday; he is the fourth member of State's 2015 class, and the first from somewhere other than North Carolina.

Phillips, who was also considering UNC and Wake Forest, made the announcement at his high school this morning. Per 247Sports, Des Kitchings was the coach primarily responsible for landing him.

He's rated as a three-star prospect by 247, Rivals, and Scout. At 6'2" and 195 pounds, he'll give State good size in the secondary, assuming that's where he ends up playing. The safety spot is the plan at this point, though I suppose there's always a chance that could change.
The other members of NC State's 2014 class: three-star offensive tackle Philip Walton, three-star receiver Brian Sessoms, and three-star defensive end Malik Douglas.
