Pack target Dexter Lawrence now No. 1 player in the country

DT Dexter Lawrence is now the top player in the country.

Today marked the release of the newest Rivals100 from Rivals.com, and local prospect and NC State target Dexter Lawrence claimed the number one spot.

Lawrence is 6’5 290lb defensive tackle from Wake Forest High School. The list of schools targeting Lawrence looks more like a preseason top 30 than an offer list, and it’s easy to see why he’s attracted the attention of pretty much every elite program in the country. He has the ability to plow through offensive lines like a Freightliner truck, but can also get by blockers with his quickness. You can watch him blow up double teams and destroy opposing players here:

So what chances do the Pack have of actually landing Dexter? The 5 star’s recruitment has been a tough one to get a read on because Lawrence is a soft-spoken kid who seems to be keeping his cards face down for now. The good news is that Lawrence’s mother wants him to stay close to home, and he is definitely considering it. The State of North Carolina has seen a lot of great players leave the state in the past, so it would be huge to keep the top player in the country at home and away from the SEC. The bad news is that Lawrence grew up a Florida fan and still likes the Gators.

Lawrence has been on campus and will certainly be there again, and there’s no question he is seriously considering spending his college years in Raleigh. If State can pull him in over the host of football factories chasing him, it would be one of the biggest recruiting wins in the history of Pack football.
