NC State football recruiting: Three-star LB Garrett Hooker commits to the Wolfpack

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

NC State has been holding camps for high school prospects all weekend, and one of the kids who stuck out to the Wolfpack staff was in-state linebacker Garrett Hooker. Hooker picked up an offer after performing well in drills, according to Pack Pride, and on Monday afternoon he committed.

Mr. Future Head Coach can't talk about Hooker specifically, of course, but you know the red light was on in the Murphy Center.

Hooker, who is a member of the 2016 class, is a consensus three-star prospect from Thomasville, NC. He's listed at 6-2, 230 pounds by 247Sports, so he's already got the frame for the linebacker position. He camped at UNC earlier this month and had been considering the Tar Heels, while also waiting on offers from Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

The Wolfpack now has eight commitments for 2016, which is going to be a small class when it's all said and done. Linebacker is a clear position of need for State, so perhaps Hooker will have a shot at contributing early. While he's not a speedy guy (he ran a 4.8 40 at State's camp), he has been plenty productive: according to his 247 profile, he racked up 207 tackles as a junior.
