Three-star DT Kobe Smith decommits from NC State after Kentucky visit

NC State got some bad news Saturday night when 2016 defensive tackle Kobe Smith announced that he's opening his recruitment back up. Smith committed to the Wolfpack back in December, but in the time since then has picked up more scholarship offers, which can always change the picture.

He'd been keeping his options open despite technically being committed, and he was in Lexington on Friday for a visit with Kentucky. The Wildcats I'd imagine would be among his new leaders. It's possible Smith re-commits to NC State down the road, but that's not how it usually works in college football recruiting--a decommitment is goodbye.

Smith, who is a consensus three-star prospect from Georgia, had been the highest-rated player in NC State's unremarkable 2016 recruiting class. I don't know what the opposite of the red light would be but you can go ahead and insert that right here. Best of luck to Smith wherever he ultimately lands.
