Another day, another commitment from a highly-regarded in-state football prospect for NC State. East Forsyth High School safety Khalid Martin joined the party with a verbal commitment to the Wolfpack this evening. Martin is a high three-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite, though 247’s own rankings consider Martin a four-star recruit.
Martin’s offer sheet includes Virginia Tech, Virginia, UNC (hi again, Larry!), Penn State, West Virginia, and Marlyland. He is regarded as a top-20 prospect in North Carolina—and the Wolfpack has been absolutely cleaning up with the state’s top tier. This last month has been quite the recruiting run.
Martin is listed at 6’2 and 195 pounds, and 247Sports’ assessment of him is pretty darn optimistic about his college future:
Martin is already physically ready to play at the collegiate level. Although he may not start from day one, he’ll definitely be in the mix for immediate playing time as a true freshman. Once he cracks the starting lineup at whichever school he chooses, the spot will be his until his college career is over. He should be a multi-year starter, all-conference performer and have a chance to play on Sundays.
Also, from that article (which is not behind the paywall, btw) it’s clear that Martin developed a strong relationship with Aaron Henry, who was the point-man with Martin’s recruitment.
The Wolfpack is up to 14 in-state commitments for 2019, and its five highest-rated verbals are all from North Carolina. State has added three of those five kids in the last 48 hours.
