Monday night brought good news on the recruiting front for Dave Doeren and his staff. In-state defensive back Devan Boykin announced his verbal commitment to the Wolfpack on Twitter. He’s a member of the 2020 class.

Boykin is a consensus three-star prospect who plays for Ragsdale High School in Greensboro. He has been playing all over the field for the Tigers, including stints at quarterback. He’s returned kicks and played running back and been a difference-maker in the defensive backfield. And defense is where he’s expected to be once he gets to college.
He’s a top-30 player in North Carolina, and 247Sports has him in their top 25. He’s listed at 5’11 and 180 pounds by that site.
With Boykin’s addition, NC State has seven verbal commitments for 2020, and three of them are defensive backs. Four of the seven verbals are from in-state kids.
The Pack’s class is up to No. 16 in the 247 composite rankings.
