NC State has a lot of recruiting targets on campus this weekend for its annual AlphaWolf Showcase, which is the last big crootin’ dealio of the summer before the team starts camp and recruiting gets back-burnered a bit.

One of the prospects in attendance, junior college defensive end Pheldarius Payne, committed to NC State on Friday evening. Payne camped at State in June, and according to 247Sports, received a scholarship offer just a couple of weeks ago.

Pack Pride spoke to Payne about his decision in this free story:

“It’s the culture at NC State and their track record for producing defensive linemen,” Payne said. “I’m so happy to be committed. Now, I can just focus on this season and play football. It’s the perfect fit for me.”

Payne is listed at 6’3 and 265 pounds by 247, which considers him a top-15 juco prospect in the 2020 class. He’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining once he gets to NC State. Since his name allows for a wide variety of puns and nicknames, he is required to be a good player. I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules.
