Finally, some legitimately good football recruiting news! Consensus four-star quarterback Aaron McLaughlin announced via Twitter on Thursday afternoon that he has committed to NC State. McLaughlin was previously committed to Auburn.

NC State had been recruiting him before he verbaled to Auburn and became a frontrunner for him after he decommitted. McLaughlin is listed at 6’5 and 219 pounds and is considered a top-250 prospect in the 2021 class. He is easily the highest-ranked prospect in the Pack’s class.

Here’s some of what 247’s Barton Simmons has to say about him:

Big, strong quarterback with advanced, mature frame. One of the best athletic profiles at the quarterback position in the 2021 class. Powerful thrower. Can make the big throws and deliver to the sideline. Sturdy in the pocket and can stand and deliver through a hit. Shows some impressive throws against his body on the run. Effective extending plays outside the structure of the offense. Big play ability as a runner.

He’s been clocked at 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard dash and has a 36-inch vertical, which ain’t too shabby. And he has the physical gifts to do things like this:

The Wolfpack hasn’t had much momentum in recruiting up to this point in the cycle, so here’s hoping that McLaughlin helps get the ball rolling elsewhere. Oh, and also that he’s good at the next level. We’ll hope that too.
