We'll take whatever positive news we can get right now, and fortunately former NC State defensive back Dontae Johnson recognized our time of need. Johnson sealed the 49ers' win over St. Louis on Monday night when he intercepted Rams quarterback Austin Davis late in the fourth quarter and returned it 20 yards for a score.
Video of the play is available at this link. (Would be nice if I were able to embed that highlight, NFL, but fine, you be that way.) Way to do a good football thing, Dontae. May Dave Doeren's very young, very All-ACC-talent-free*** group take a cue from your effort.
It was the first INT of Johnson's pro career (and first touchdown, obvs.). He hasn't worked his way into a starting role with San Francisco--not that folks were expecting him to do that straight out of college--but he has appeared in every game for the 49ers this season. In addition to the pick, he's got three tackles and three passes defended in his limited time on the field.
(***Dave insisted I mention that bit.)
