NC State redshirt freshman Will Richardson, who has started all eight games this season at right tackle for the Wolfpack, has been suspended indefinitely. The suspension is for your standard, ambiguous "violation of team rules," per the N&O's Joe Giglio. Giglio also noted that there are no pending court dates for Richardson, so this may not be a legal issue. [UPDATE: It is a legal issue. Richardson was arrested and charged with a DWI early Sunday morning.]
Richardson has developed in to a crucial part of NC State's offensive line, and has spent a whole lot of time on the field in 2015.
Richardson had played more snaps than any other Pack OL before Clemson game (and I don’t think he missed any snaps in that one) - 466/496— Ryan Tice (@RyanTice) November 1, 2015
Actually, Richardson led the entire team in snaps played entering Clemson…again, no reason to think he fell behind anybody yesterday— Ryan Tice (@RyanTice) November 1, 2015
So ... yeah. This is not exactly the news we want to be hearing as the team prepares for one of the country's best defenses. Richardson probably will not be reinstated this week given the serious nature of his offense, and that will leave the Wolfpack shorthanded up front.
With Richardson's status for this week or any other week in question, and Matt Dayes' health status unknown, this upcoming trip to Chestnut Hill is only getting more frightening.
Driving drunk is stupid, and driving drunk on Halloween--when you are not even 21 years old--is next-level stupid. I would not be surprised to see Richardson's suspension carry through the rest of this season, at minimum.
