NC State rallies to beat Boston College, 17-14

It was not pretty and let us never speak of this again.

Whew. Wheeeeeeeew. NC State played about as poorly as it could against Boston College, and the coaches were not much better, but State got out of Chestnut Hill with a 17-14 victory over the Eagles. This could have been much, much worse.

NC State took a 10-7 lead into the break and this game appeared to pivot on an absolutely horrible trick play call that gave BC the ball in plus territory; BC scored a TD soon after to take a 14-10 lead.

State took its time re-asserting control of things but State did that eventually, thanks to some really good blocking and some brilliant running along the edge by Nyheim Hines, who potted the game-winner in the fourth quarter.

Hines defined this game with that touchdown run, but it probably shouldn’t have reached that point. State had a lot of opportunities to score more points or get touchdowns in close and failed to do so. Ryan Finley didn’t play well. The playcalling was bad. Kyle Bambard missed three field goals.

But they managed.

Nothing about today was ideal, start to finish. There were tons of silly mistakes and NC State also managed to miss multiple field goals. But we got out with a win. We escaped that entire mess with a win, and there will be things that are in need of fixing, but we won. Whew, but we won.

7-3 (5-1). Enjoy it.
