Nyheim Hines passes concussion protocol, will play against UNC

NC State running back Nyheim Hines didn’t practice early in the week after suffering an apparent head injury against Wake Forest, but he says he’ll be ready to play against UNC. Hines was tested for a concussion after the the Wake game and fortunately showed no signs of a serious head injury. Hines has been playing at less than 100% for a while now.

Nobody would like to have a big season finale more than Hines, who needs 156 yards rushing to hit 1,000 yards in the regular season. I’m glad he’s going to get that chance. (And I’m going to trust that the adults in the room are doing right by the player here.) But hey, if he doesn’t get to 1,000 this weekend, the bowl game counts toward season totals too.

Hines has four 100-yard rushing games this season, but only one in his last four games out. He was limited against both Notre Dame and Clemson before getting hurt again against Wake, so we haven’t seen him at close to his potential for a while. Here’s hoping that changes in a few short days.
