2017 bowl projections: NC State might be stuck with the Sun Bowl thanks to Notre Dame

Not to harsh the vibe too much on this most triumphant and victorious weekend, but NC State’s bowl outlook took a hit on Saturday thanks to nothing of its own doing. When Notre Dame lost to Stanford on Saturday night, the Irish likely dropped out of New Year’s Six contention, which means they will instead steal an ACC-affiliated bowl bid.

Which is not great news for NC State, as Joe Giglio explains here. Coming into this weekend, it appeared State would be headed to either the Gator Bowl or the Camping World Bowl (Orlando) with a victory, but Notre Dame’s loss throws a wrench into everything. Now the Wolfpack may be bumped down to the datgone Sun Bowl in datgone El Paso.

That’d be a pretty big bummer for everyone involved, since last time I checked, El Paso is in west Texas, which is way the hell over there (just picture me pointing in the general direction of west Texas). Nobody wants that trip.

We’ll know for sure in a week’s time, once all the conference title games have played out.
