NC State announced Friday evening, just as the Kevin Keatts news was hitting, that redshirt freshman Johnny Frasier has left the football program. Frasier, who played sparingly during his brief time in Raleigh, missed a chunk of last season with a shoulder injury.
Roster news: Johnny Frasier has decided to leave the team to concentrate on academics and his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery.

Frasier has been limited this spring by the injury, which ended his season in early November. Even before getting hurt, Frasier was never much of a factor at running back for NC State, and that probably would have remained the case in 2017.
Partly because he’s inactive, Frasier was listed near the bottom of the spring depth chart at running back, and would have had to make a lot of progress between now and September to earn a significant role with the offense. The odds of that were pretty unlikely.
Reggie Gallaspy, Dakwa Nichols, and Nyheim Hines are expected to handle the bulk of the work out of the backfield, which leaves little room for a guy who has spent months on the sideline with injury. Frasier understands this and will be looking for an opportunity elsewhere.
Since he has used his redshirt already, I’d imagine junior college will be his next stop.
