NFL camps have also started and this is an important time for several NC State draftees, Matt Dayes included. Dayes was one of the last players taken in the 2017 NFL Draft, and while it is early, he’s already made a good impression on Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson:

“I think he’s disappointed in that way that he didn’t get picked earlier,” he said, “but he is demonstrating out here on the field the talent that he has. He has had a great camp so far.”

The immediate future of guys like Dayes, who was a seventh-round selection, tends to be pretty cloudy. The kids taken by teams in the first few rounds always end up making the final 53-man roster, but the farther down the line you go, the more guys have to prove themselves once they put on the pads.

Here’s hoping Dayes is able to carve out a spot for himself over the next month. I definitely won’t be surprised if he does.
