NC State cornerback Mike Stevens will miss South Carolina game because of injury

And maybe a lot more games. Who knows.

NC State will be without senior cornerback Mike Stevens against South Carolina on Saturday. Stevens suffered a knee injury in camp, per the N&O’s Joe Giglio, and I suspect this is not merely a short-term injury. Stevens is the most experienced member of the secondary and has been a regular starter since 2015.

This is a difficult setback for a position group that was already thin after losing Jack Tocho to graduation, so any attrition here is going to be alarming even though we don’t know how things are going to pan out at corner, with or without Mike Stevens.

What this says for certain is that converted wide receiver Johnathan Alston became very important and very necessary very very quickly. Let’s hope that he is up to the task. He’s going to be thrown into a tough spot right off the bat, which is not ideal, but this is where we are. Welcome to the party, pal.
