South Carolina has unknowns of its own at place kicker

If there is one thing NC State and South Carolina have in common heading into the weekend, it’s questions at place kicker. The Wolfpack will have transfer Carson Wise handling field goals, while the Gamecocks are replacing four-year starter Elliott Fry.

Fry missed only one extra point in his four seasons and nobody else on the roster attempted a field goal while he was at South Carolina. He made a career-high 20 field goals in 2015.

The Gamecocks will have to replace him with either Alex Woznick or Parker White—the depth chart the Gamecocks released this week did not specify who would start at kicker. Both Woznick and White are redshirt freshmen, so their next collegiate field goal attempt will be their first.

No doubt both teams go into Saturday a little worried about how their kicking games will sort themselves out on the field. Could be the team that simply executes best in chip-shot range (inside 40 yards, say) ends up with a significant edge.
