NC State upsets Florida State in Tallahassee, 27-21

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Florida State Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Dave, you’re through! The NC State Wolfpack picked up a huge road win on Saturday against the Florida State Seminoles, 27-21, and, in fact, State never trailed on the road to a victory. This particular play helped a lot:

NC State was the opportunistic outfit today, taking full advantage of whatever mistakes that a cold FSU team was willing to make. NC State also caught a few breaks.

But Ryan Finley was really good, and so was the offensive line, which allowed State to put early pressure on FSU’s true freshman quarterback. Bradley Chubb haunted James Blackman’s afternoon, but Chubb did need a minor assist. He was really great even without a bit of help.

This NC State football team can be pretty good when it wants to be.

On Saturday afternoon they were concentrated in one goal, which was not letting FSU’s freshman quarterback beat them. That kid is legit—really good, turns out—but not good enough, not good enough yet. NC State made the big plays, the bigger plays when necessary.

Dave Doeren was due for a finish like this one. I’m glad I got to see it. State was better than FSU today. Ain’t no reason worrying about the future, just enjoy this football thing.
