Jalan McClendon will graduate and transfer from NC State

NCAA FOOTBALL: DEC 26 Independence Bowl - NC State v Vanderbilt

NC State announced Monday that quarterback Jalan McClendon will be transferring elsewhere once he graduates in May. He’ll be eligible to play immediately whether he lands at another FBS school or in the FCS, and he’ll have one season left.

McClendon spent the majority of his Wolfpack career as a backup quarterback, first behind Jacoby Brissett, then behind Ryan Finley. With Finley’s return assured, McClendon was certain to play second fiddle once again this fall, so it’s no surprise that he wants to find an opportunity for more minutes somewhere else.

He’s spent his entire career trying to break through and earn the starting quarterback spot and it’s now or never for him to find that chance. This decision makes perfect sense for him and I hope he finds a place where he can be successful. I’m sure we’re all curious to see just what he could do if he got to play an entire season as a starter.
