Last year, the new early signing period pretty much became the new National Signing Day, as the majority of prospects opted to put pen to paper early rather than wait until February. The same proved true this year, and for NC State in particular. Nineteen members of the Wolfpack’s 2019 class are officially members of the program.
You can read more about them at GoPack.com’s signing day central. Their recruiting profiles are here.
Among the signees is four-star defensive end Savion Jackson, four-star C.J. Clark, and four star defensive tackle Josh Harris. Those are the highest-rated kids in the class, and all of them are from North Carolina. No signing day shenanigans here, no last-minute flips to Mr. Football Recruiting Genius Mack Brown. (heh)
The big holdout at this point is running back Jamious Griffin, who saw his stock skyrocket during his senior season. He committed to NC State in May, but as he’s drawn attention from more big-time programs, it’s no shock that he’s had a moment of pause. And it appears he is giving Georgia Tech and its new staff some serious consideration. (Griffin is from Georgia.) So we’ll see where this goes. He may draw his recruitment out until February.
Regardless of what Griffin ultimately decides, this class represents another excellent crop of talent, and State has put together back-to-back top-30 recruiting classes. Winning opens a lot of doors and more talented players have been willing to hear what Dave Doeren has to say—especially in North Carolina.
