NC State linebacker Germaine Pratt will skip Gator Bowl

NCAA Football: Boston College at North Carolina State James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

NC State senior linebacker Germaine Pratt posted a photo on Instagram this morning that appeared to show him signing a contract with an NFL agent, and per a report from Inside Pack Sports, school officials have confirmed that Pratt will not be participating in the Gator Bowl.

This isn’t exactly a shocking development primarily because we know that Pratt is banged up—he was not able to play in the season finale against UNC because of an injury. I don’t know the extent of the injury, but it makes a lot of sense to avoid the risk of making anything worse or re-aggravating something. Pratt can instead get a head start on preparations for the 2019 NFL Draft.

It’s fine to feel disappointed about this from a selfish fan perspective—it’s pretty difficult not to—but nobody should ever fault a guy for doing what he feels is in his best interests. Pratt played hard all year long and is a big reason why we’re in the Gator Bowl to begin with. I wish him the best in his pursuit of an NFL career.
