Miami is in the market for a defensive line coach after losing Craig Kuligowski to Alabama earlier in the week. Current NC State DL coach Kevin Patrick has been rumored to be a serious target of the Hurricanes for several days, but it appears he’ll be staying in Raleigh, per a report from Jamie Newberg of 247Sports.

Patrick has significant recruiting ties to Florida after spending a long time coaching at South Florida, and he’s also a former Miami player, so the ‘Canes interest in him makes a lot of sense. Whatever his alma mater offered, though, apparently was not enough to lure him away from Raleigh. Patrick has only been a member of NC State’s staff for one season, which could have played a part in his decision as well—not everybody enjoys moving around all the time.

Patrick replaced NC State defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen, who was hired away by the New Orleans Saints last year. Prior to arriving at State, Patrick coached at Texas Tech.
