NC State picked up a late addition to its 2018 recruiting class this weekend with the commitment of junior college defensive tackle Val Martin. Martin officially visited the Wolfpack over the weekend, which sealed the deal for him. As a junior college transfer, he’ll be eligible immediately, with two years of eligibility remaining.

Martin spent last season playing for JuCo powerhouse Iowa Western (they scored 45.8 points per game while allowing 16.2 in 2017) and finished the season with 49 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss. He’s listed at 6’2 and 305 pounds by the Iowa Western website and figures to have a chance at immediate playing time considering what NC State lost in the middle.
He had interest from several other power-conference schools, including Washington State and West Virginia. Here are the highlights from this past season at Iowa Western, if you’re into that kind of thing:
That is indeed a large individual.
