NC State refutes report indicating West Virginia game will be canceled

Is it or ain’t it?

Early Tuesday morning, a local West Virginia news network, WOWK-13, reported that the game Saturday between NC State and the Mountaineers will be canceled as the two schools haven’t been able to agree on a plan to move the contest.

According to that report, NC State is supposedly unwilling to play the game in Morgantown rather than Raleigh, regardless of the financial terms. Wolfpack associate athletics director Fred Demarest refuted the report on Twitter, indicating that the two sides are still talking.

I would guess that the WOWK report is premature but may be a good indicator that the game is unlikely to be played as scheduled. It’s a complicated mess trying to figure out how to move a college football game, not just for the logistics, but because of the finances—the entire department budget relies on football playing a certain number of home games and hitting a certain dollar figure each fall.

At this point I’m assuming no final decisions have been made, but stay tuned.
